About: Fate/Grand Order is a popular mobile game that lets you summon powerful heroes from history and myth to battle for the Holy Grail. With its unique gacha system and immersive storyline featuring characters and events from the Fate universe, FGO offers a challenging and rewarding gameplay experience that's both visually stunning and rich in lore. Fate/Grand Order (FGO) is developed by the Japanese company Type-Moon and published by Aniplex.

Summary: Over the course of two years between 2018 and 2020, I had the privilege of collaborating with Aniplex of America on multiple projects aimed at promoting the immensely popular FGO mobile game across Australia. Through a series of engaging in-person fan events, we were able to foster a sense of community among FGO enthusiasts and raise awareness of the game's exciting gameplay and rich storyline. Despite the challenges posed by Covid-19 restrictions, we persevered and adapted our campaign to a digital format in 2020-2021, ensuring that fans in Australia and New Zealand could continue to experience the magic of FGO.

The Brief

Fate / Grand Order Promotion Event

As of the time in 2018, the FGO mobile game was still relatively new in the Australian mobile gaming space. I was tasked in creating a promotional event with the main goals of:

  • Increase general awareness of the mobile game

  • Convert new and casual gamers into dedicated long-term players.

  • Provide the then small but dedicated fan base an interactive experience and grow the fan base

  • Promote and grow the fan base for other aspects of the Fate franchise in general. (theatrical, streaming, board game)

From Concept
to Reality

Concept, Ideation, Design, Production

The main focus of the FGO fan experience is centred around the booth. Fans would be able to interact with core game mechanics in the real world and walk away with exclusive merchandise only available to the fan experiences in Australia.

Working in conjunction with the licensor, I took the booth from concept, production design, right through to final delivery.

Beyond the booth

A complete 360-degree fan experience.

Whilst the main focus was centred around the booth, the complete fan experience extended to so much more. Fans were delighted in the chance to meet their favourite English and Japanese language voice actors, watch exclusive theatrical screenings, participate in mass cosplay events, access exclusive free handouts and merchandise sales, official props displays, and roaming character costumes with whom they could interact.
