at SXSW

The launch of VeVe Comics and the future of comics.

In Q1 2024, VeVe launched the VeVe Comics platform and accompanying comic reader app. With Marvel as the inaugural launch partner, VeVe comics represented an opportunity for comic book fans to enjoy digital editions of their favourite comics simultaneously with their in-store release.

My role was to create, concept and develop a harmonious suite of assets for the announcement
and launch of the platform at the prestigious South by South West 2024 event.

Two Approaches,
One Unified Brand

To capture different facets of the launch while maintaining a cohesive VeVe identity, we developed two distinct creative approaches:

  1. “Calling All Comic Book Fans”

    • Theme & Audience: This approach tapped into the nostalgia and excitement surrounding classic comic culture, speaking directly to longtime fans and collectors.

  2. “The Future of Comics”

    • Theme & Audience: Emphasizing the innovative leap into digital collectibles, this approach appealed to a forward-thinking audience interested in cutting-edge technology and emerging trends.

Although visually distinct, both approaches stayed true to the VeVe brand guidelines—ensuring consistency in typography, color palettes, and messaging. By presenting two complementary creative directions, we effectively engaged both traditional comic enthusiasts and next-generation collectors, driving maximum impact for the launch and sustaining momentum throughout the campaign.

SXSW Launch and Drop Marketing

Marvel, as the inaugural launch partner of the VeVe Comics platform, introduced the project during their presentation at SXSW 2024 (South by Southwest). This milestone set the stage for other publishers to follow, including 20th Century Fox, Disney, and various independent publishers, with more joining over time.

In addition to developing the launch assets, I led the creation of the SXSW launch video, which was showcased on stage to a global audience. The video was also adapted for multiple social media platforms, ensuring broad reach and engagement across different audiences.

Sustained Drop Marketing

In addition to creating the launch assets, I established the visual direction for individual comic drop marketing, developing distinct concepts that maintained brand consistency while allowing each release to stand out. I also spearheaded the creation of various ad creatives for A/B testing, ensuring we could refine messaging, visuals, and engagement strategies based on real-time performance data.
